A new pair of chinos has been released, based on the rare 1940s US Navy officer's chinos that are hard to find even on the vintage market.

■The fabric is a lightweight chino made from our original material.
Furthermore, this fabric has undergone a cold mercerization process.
Cold mercerization is a specialized process that uses caustic soda to enhance the yarn’s strength while imparting a lustrous sheen. Precise water temperature control is crucial during this process, and there are only a handful of factories in Japan equipped to perform it.
By utilizing this rare technique, we’ve recreated the unique, dry texture that vintage chinos from the 1940s acquire over many years.
Although this process is typically used on thick fabrics, applying it to a thin chino cloth has resulted in a crisp fabric that, despite its light weight, offers just the right amount of firmness and body.
The fabric is slightly thinner than that used in Nigel Cabourn’s signature NEW BASIC CHINO PANT.
■While the US Army’s “41 Chino”—a classic vintage military chino—features single-stitched back pockets, the US Navy’s Officers’ Chino features double-stitched back pockets and coin pockets. This product faithfully reproduces that luxurious construction.
It also reproduces the distinctive detail of two belt loops positioned near the coin pocket to distribute weight.
■Like Nigel Cabourn’s classic “NEW BASIC CHINO PANT,” this item features a bold, wide silhouette.
■While the vintage original that inspired this product featured a button fly, this version has been updated to a zipper fly for greater ease of everyday wear.
■Suspenders buttons are placed on the inside of the waistband, so we recommend styling these with suspenders.
■Unwashed item.
