The BLACK MA-1 was the first jacket produced by Buzz Rickson’s to mark the brand’s 10th anniversary. In the novel *Pattern Recognition* by world-renowned author William Gibson, the protagonist wears a jacket emblazoned with the words “Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1.”
Stepping right out of that novel, the actual Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1 was born.
While the standard color for the MA-1—officially adopted by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s—is traditionally sage green, no authentic Black MA-1 using military-spec parts and materials based on MIL-SPEC standards had ever existed before.
As a result, it became a hot topic and was well-received by authenticity-seeking users in the market.
Even if all materials are specified as black, each fabric absorbs dye differently. When these are assembled into a single jacket, subtle color variations emerge, clearly demonstrating just how many different materials go into a flight jacket...
■This is the black version of the blue chambray shirt, a bestseller at Buzz Rickson’s for over 20 years since its release. Special attention was paid to the stitching thread color. The selvedge chambray fabric, woven on vintage looms, has a unique textured feel due to uneven tension, and its character deepens with each wear.
■Urea buttons are used.
