Lot No. LK-003-DEERBB

After examining numerous vintage engineer boots, we’ve created these Japanese-made engineer boots packed with a level of attention to detail—including materials, manufacturing methods, and individual components—that cannot be fully described in a single sentence.
They are the crowning masterpiece of the John Loftgren Boot Company’s lineup and embody the brand’s passion and commitment to excellence.
Crafted by Japanese artisans using time-honored techniques, these boots feature a sturdy, high-quality finish.

The leather used is Ezo deer hide. The Ezo deer is a subspecies of the Japanese deer native to Hokkaido, Japan. It is larger than other deer subspecies and thrives in the harsh, cold, and snowy environment of the region. Since ancient times, the Ainu people have hunted the Ezo deer for food, and its hide was once used in samurai armor.
Making boots from Ezo deer hide requires two layers. For the upper, we use tanned leather impregnated with wax and finished with a vintage-style burnished effect. The finish is designed to evoke the patina that develops as the boots are worn in.
The liner is made from oil-treated tanned leather.
For both the upper and liner, we’ve deliberately avoided dyeing or coating the leather to standardize its texture, instead highlighting the unique character of wild Ezo deer hide. The natural grain and wild, rugged texture of this leather will be irresistible, especially to leather enthusiasts.

Triple stitching is applied to areas prone to pressure, and the stitching—a hallmark of Japanese craftsmanship—adds to the beautiful finish.

Featuring layered Oak Dark Tan leather and a Woodsman’s heel (with a curved shape that curves inward), these shoes boast an elegant finish.

The shaft is shaped with a rounded contour at the calf to ensure a comfortable fit.

The buckle is a steel roller buckle featuring the brand’s logo. It has been given an antique brass finish and was designed from scratch to blend seamlessly with the leather.

The sole is made by the world-renowned manufacturer VIBRAM and offers exceptional durability.

It boasts durability achieved through complex stitching using the Goodyear welt construction—one of the traditional methods for crafting leather shoes.
This construction method, commonly found in vintage boots and high-end shoes, is characterized by a level of sturdiness that is unmatched by other methods.
Thanks to its intricate stitching and construction, the shoe’s well-balanced weight creates a pendulum-like motion while walking, providing excellent support.
One of its key attractions is that it can be repaired—such as by replacing the sole or heel—allowing you to wear it virtually forever.
We’ll deliver it in a special box.
