The “PAPA NUI” brand, created by John, who lives in Australia. This collection reimagines military style through the designer’s unique personality and narrative.
The brand is committed to ensuring that everything—from the fabrics and stitching to even the smallest components—is crafted in Japan by fairly employed artisans.
As a tribute to the military, the Japanese flag—the “Hinomaru”—is reimagined as “PAPA MARU” and is sewn onto most products in the collection as a trademark.
■During the Vietnam War, far from the front lines of combat, deep within the dense jungle and beneath a dark canopy of trees reaching hundreds of meters high, a secret unit—identifiable only by their black caps—was operating.
The caps feature a Skull & Bones patch sewn on, locally produced in the back alleys of Saigon.
Clad in tiger stripe, Duck Hunter camo, and even gear sourced from indigenous tribes, they moved secretly along the trails as a multi-purpose rapid-response unit, searching for and annihilating the enemy in a “cat-and-mouse” game of counterinsurgency warfare.
