The “PAPA NUI” brand is created by John, who lives in Australia. The collection features military-style designs infused with the designer’s unique personality and narrative.
This brand is committed to ensuring that everything—from the fabrics and stitching to even the smallest components—is crafted in Japan by fairly employed artisans.
As a tribute to the military, the Japanese national flag
, the “Hinomaru,” is reimagined as “PAPA MARU” and sewn onto most products in the collection as a trademark.

This is a collaborative project between Papa Nui, The Rite Stuff, and John Lofgren Bootmaker. Joining forces for this project, they have created a concept collection centered around the newly reissued 1860s selvedge indigo denim manufactured by Amoskeag in Japan.
It’s an incredibly appealing fabric that strongly evokes the essence of the USMC.

This vintage reproduction indigo denim from Amoskeag features the ideal weight (10.5 oz) for U.S. Navy utility pants.

The word “Moku” derives from the Hawaiian word “Mokus,” meaning “ship” or “sailing vessel,” and eventually came to be used as a term for the denim pants worn by sailors.
These pants became the foundation for the island’s unique style. In downtown Honolulu at that time—which was brimming with vibrant Japanese fabrics and traditional Hawaiian paraka patterns—there were exceptional tailors who crafted casual shirts that reflected the island’s calm, tropical atmosphere. When paired with sailor pants, this created an iconic style instantly recognizable to anyone heading to the tropics.

The underside of the visor features a striking USMC Beach Brown frogskin camo pattern. This denim cap recreates the original fit pattern from World War II.

Even for caps of the same model, the shrinkage rate varies depending on the fabric. Please be aware of this in advance.

Some shrinkage may occur during washing.
If the cap feels too large, washing it and then using a dryer will cause it to shrink. Please repeat this process several times until it fits your head comfortably.
