1940s CIVILIAN MILITARY-STYLE CLOTHING
The B-15B is generally made of nylon, but cotton models did exist in the early days. Historically, it was originally produced in cotton when it was developed in 1945, and production switched to nylon models starting in 1948.
This product is based on the early cotton B-15B model and has been produced as a civilian model.
■The outer shell features the brand’s original fabric, cotton chino drill. This fabric has a firm, duck-like texture and is made with thick-gauge yarn, so one of the joys of owning it is watching it develop a rich brown patina and distinct vertical fading as it ages with wear.
■The lining is made of wool blended with alpaca.
Alpaca wool is a high-quality material that is lightweight and offers exceptional warmth. It is also resistant to pilling and is much more durable than regular wool. Unlike Free Wheelers’ N-1 jacket, which features a layer of cotton flannel between the outer shell and the lining, this model omits that layer, resulting in a lighter, more comfortable fit.
■The collar features double-tufted wool pile. This wool pile, made from densely tufted, long, curly wool fibers, has a shearling-like appearance and is characterized by its high thermal insulation, elasticity, and volume.
It also features a wool-pile chin strap.
■The left side panel features a horse leather “Oxygen” tab, which is positioned slightly lower than usual.
While the B-15B typically has a zippered pocket on the left sleeve, this model features a pen pocket designed the same way as the B-15A.
