The brand name is derived from the mojito, a drink Hemingway is said to have loved.Designer Hirofumi Yamashita has studied and interpreted Hemingway’s works, using his own philosophy of clothing to express Hemingway’s character, the historical context, and scenes from his daily life.
This product is designed based on a shirt from the early 1900s, and its name, “CLARENCE,” is derived from the name of Hemingway’s father.
■ The fabric used is cotton seersucker.Seersucker is a type of fabric woven so that raised, striped ridges appear on its surface. Because it has less surface area in contact with the skin than flat fabrics, it is breathable and less likely to feel sticky, making it a popular choice for spring and summer. It is characterized by a light, cool, and comfortable feel.
Additionally, since indigo yarn is used in the fabric of this product, you can enjoy the aging process as the color gradually fades with repeated wear and washing.
■The band collar, body length, front panel design (hidden buttons securing the flared hem), and side hem pieces are all adaptations of details from the early 1900s. We paid close attention to the overall size balance and silhouette to ensure the garment does not look like a mere remake of vintage clothing. Furthermore, the band collar is designed not to stand up when worn, evoking the feel of that era.
