This model is a front-opening adaptation of a smock used by U.S. Navy gunners in the late 1940s, featuring a tiger camo pattern.
■The smocks worn by U.S. Navy gunners in the late 1940s were repurposed after World War II by hot rod racers as functional racing jackets.
It is named after the Mojave Desert in California, where hot rod races were once held.
■Known as “Tiger Camo,” this camouflage pattern was adopted by the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) Marine Corps in the late 1950s. While there are various theories regarding its origins, it is said to be derived from a camouflage pattern once used by the French military known as “Lizard Camo.”
Made from cotton fabric with just the right thickness, this smock can be worn as outerwear in spring and fall, or layered under a loose-fitting coat in winter.
■Since it was originally designed as a pullover, the silhouette features a boxy cut with generous room in the shoulders and body.
■Drawstrings are included at the hood, cuffs, and hem, allowing you to cinch the garment for a more fitted look. It features two flap pockets positioned high on the front.
■Supervised by “John Lofgren,” a designer for a boot manufacturer with deep expertise in vintage fashion, its high quality goes without saying.Highly recommended for vintage enthusiasts.
