About OX’ED SILVER… This label has researched and analyzed suits—originally worn as workwear by specific workers, artisans, and artists—as well as the shirts, T-shirts, and other garments worn with them, and has brought them back to life for the modern era.
This season’s collection focuses on five professions—blacksmith, master mason, firefighter, architect, and engineer—and incorporates their characteristics into the designs.
This product is designed based on a coat traditionally worn by architects.
■The fabric used is the brand’s original hemp denim.
Hemp is a type of fiber that is extremely durable compared to other fibers like linen, but transforming it into yarn suitable for clothing requires a high level of skill and experience, making the process extremely difficult. Weaving this yarn is also challenging; applying too much tension or increasing the speed too much can cause the yarn to break.
That’s why we use an old-fashioned power loom; however, since these are primitive machines with significant variations from one unit to another, we have no choice but to limit production to a single machine. Furthermore, there is only one veteran professional artisan capable of weaving this fabric using this machine.
This process results in hemp denim with a unique stiffness and moderate firmness. The stiffness of regular denim comes from the sizing applied during the weaving process.However, the stiffness of hemp denim derives from the pectin naturally present in hemp, so the more you wear it, the more it conforms to your body—and it retains its shape. This characteristic is the same as that of Harris Tweed.
■ Like flax, hemp offers high breathability and a cool, refreshing feel, but at the same time, because the fibers are hollow, it provides better insulation than flax, making it suitable for wear over a longer season.
■ It features a stand-up collar, raglan sleeves, a relaxed fit, and a longer length.
■ As this is an unlined, single-layer coat, it can be worn for a long season.
