Until the end of the war in August 1945, its impact was felt in the continental United States as well, in the form of price controls and rationing.

Just as was the case in the history of jeans, the products commonly referred to as “World War II models” ultimately gave rise to quirky and niche details that emerged from those restrictions, leading to a wide variety of combinations and giving them a special luster.
It is evident from vintage World War II models that the simplification resulting from specification changes down to the finest details persisted until mid-1946, after the war.
This product’s 1944–1945 wartime model is a truly unique piece, subject to the strictest of constraints and regulations, resulting in the omission and simplification of numerous details.
In our quest to recreate the late 1940s denim pants that Free Wheelers aims for, we could not find such yarn anywhere in Japan or overseas.
What sets this apart from other denim fabrics is that we start from the yarn—that is, from the spinning process—and create the fabric from raw cotton.
The silhouette is roughly midway between the 1947 and 1951 models in the Free Wheelers lineup in terms of width.

■For the denim fabric, we deliberately used a dark indigo dye that resists fading. We rejected the constraint of reducing the ounce weight and, by increasing the thickness of the traditional warp yarn, have actually achieved a slight increase in ounce weight.
Since reducing the ounce weight compromises durability, we’ve stayed true to the ruggedness of wartime workwear. We’ve maintained the use of thick-count thread, skilled craftsmanship, and traditional manufacturing processes in the sewing to ensure high quality and durability, releasing this model at 14 oz.
Because thick thread is used for the warp, you can enjoy a pronounced vertical fade.
■Meticulous Details in the Reissue of the WWII Model
・The top button features a donut-shaped button with a single star engraved on a laurel wreath.
・The hidden rivets are the original iron dome-shaped rivets used until around 1946, after the war.
・The red tab on the back pocket is made of single-sided rayon.

・Pocket linings are made of olive-colored herringbone fabric
