These are 1947-style denim pants from the “THE VANISHING WEST” label.
In our quest to recreate the late 1940s denim pants that Free Wheelers strives for, we couldn’t find the right yarn anywhere—not even in Japan or overseas.
What sets this apart from other denim fabrics is that we start from the yarn—that is, the spinning process—and source the cotton ourselves to create the fabric.
The vertical fading is very natural, with neps woven into the fabric; it’s the brand’s original 14oz denim fabric that features just the right amount of twill texture and a subtle roughness, without any artificial look.
We are confident that this fabric is born from high-potential yarn spun from special cotton. Furthermore, for the rope dyeing process, we’ve switched to 100% pure synthetic indigo and increased the number of dyeing passes while paying close attention to the fabric’s core whiteness.
Unlike the 1951 model, the silhouette features a slightly deeper rise and a rugged straight cut that falls straight from the knee to the hem without tapering.
■The sewing method differs from the 1951 model but is identical to our previous 1947 model, using Free Wheelers’ original No. 4 thread.
This is the ultimate specification, utilizing a generous amount of thick-gauge thread to capture that vintage feel.
■The hidden rivets use the original iron dome-shaped rivets used until around 1946 in the post-war era; the red tab on the back pocket is made of single-sided rayon; the rust-proofed button tops; copper rivets; the V-stitching next to the top button; the center-fastened belt loops; and the slightly shorter stitching running along the outside...These meticulously crafted details come together to create a masterpiece that embodies the Free Wheelers aesthetic.
