The “PAPA NUI” brand, created by John, who lives in Australia. This collection blends military style with the designer’s unique personality and narrative.
The brand is committed to ensuring that everything—from the fabrics and stitching to even the smallest components—is crafted by fairly employed artisans in Japan.
As a tribute to the military, the Japanese national flag, the “Hinomaru,” is reimagined as “PAPA MARU” and sewn onto most products in the collection as a trademark.
The fabric is a brown herringbone twill reminiscent of beach sand, tailored to blend perfectly into the barren landscape of a coral-strewn atoll.
This sturdy hat became a valuable piece of equipment during wartime, and even today, it commands a strong presence on the training grounds at Fort Nui.
The brim is unlined, so it can be folded and stored in a pocket or bag.
