This is a special model exclusive to our store, featuring a design based on the M43 system pants officially adopted and worn by the U.S. Army in 1943, crafted using the brand’s original SZ herringbone fabric. This special model also features a stencil design on the hip pockets—a detail not seen on any previous Nigel Cabourn pants.
■The fabric is the brand’s original SZ herringbone, woven in-house.
This fabric was created based on an irregular sample that Nigel Cabourn discovered among numerous vintage samples.
Herringbone fabric is a popular choice for military wear, but most of it is woven using a technique called single herringbone. In this weave, one direction of the twill stands out while the other appears recessed; however, the SZ herringbone used in this product is different.
SZ herringbone fabric features a unique construction in which the twill pattern is clearly visible across the entire fabric.The key to achieving this weave was the use of two types of yarn with different twist directions—S-twist (clockwise) and Z-twist (counterclockwise)—which were alternately used as warp threads according to the direction of the twill. This approach succeeded in creating a fabric with an even stronger structure than standard single herringbone, which is already known for its excellent tear resistance.
■Featuring a simple design without cargo pockets, this garment is equipped with adjusters at both ends of the waist and a cinch bag at the back to allow for easy waist size adjustment. The design on the back of this product is inspired by the M35, the U.S. Army’s first pair of denim trousers, which were made from denim fabric in the early 1930s.
It also features suspenders buttons—a detail not found on the original—making it a versatile piece that works well with a wide range of outfits.
■The front features a button fly and uses original buttons modeled after the 13-star buttons adopted by the U.S. Army.
■The hip pockets feature the CABOURN logo applied via a labor-intensive stencil-printing process, a special detail unique to this custom order.
