The PEAT LABEL is a series featuring Chromexcel leather custom-ordered by Nigel Cabourn; it is named for the leather’s color, which evokes the image of peat.
The design is based on a vintage backpack used by the Swiss Army’s mountain troops in the 1960s.
Known as an elite unit, mountain troops are required to possess surveillance and combat capabilities in addition to mastering mountaineering techniques while navigating harsh terrain and thin air. This practical backpack is based on a model specifically engineered to withstand the rigors of demanding missions, while incorporating details that make it suitable for modern urban use.
■The fabric is an original weave developed with the fabrics widely used in Swiss mountain troops’ equipment as a reference.
It is a special fabric with a unique “sesame salt” weave that provides a camouflage effect, woven at ultra-high density using thick yarns.
For the leather components, we use the highest-grade Chromexcel leather from Horween, a long-established American leather manufacturer.
Because it contains more oil than standard leather, it is less prone to cracking and remains soft. For this product, we’ve infused this Chromexcel leather with oil to the absolute limit, resulting in a finish that is even more supple than standard Chromexcel leather and perfectly suited for many years of cherished use.
