DONKEY PUNCHER BOOTS / BADALASSI CARLO LEATHER / COGNAC
Lot No. LK-004-COGNAC
These are sturdy 6-inch logger-style boots. The name “Donkey Puncher” comes from the operators of steam engines known as “steam donkeys,” which were used in the American logging industry around the late 19th century.
■The leather used is Minerva Riscio from the Italian company “Badalassi Carlo.”
Located in the Tuscany region of Italy, Badalassi Carlo is a tannery specializing in vegetable-tanned leather. For over 50 years, the company has been tanning leather in the region using the “Bacchetta” method, establishing itself as one of Italy’s premier tanneries.
The “Bacchetta” method is a traditional tanning process that involves slowly and thoroughly infusing the leather with vegetable tannins over an extended period, followed by repeated stages of fattening—the addition of oil. However, because this method is time-consuming and labor-intensive, and the number of artisans capable of passing down this craft has dwindled over time, the leather produced using this method has become increasingly rare.
Minerva Riscio leather is characterized by its smooth, beautiful surface and its substantial thickness and firmness.
We use the shoulder section of cowhide, which is particularly strong. The more you wear them, the more they develop a beautiful luster; the oil is retained well, and the high-quality sheen deepens over time.
Please also enjoy the beautiful coloration unique to Italian-made products.
The lining is made from Japanese-made horsehide, ensuring a comfortable fit and a premium wearing experience.
■ Triple stitching is applied to areas prone to pressure, and the stitching—a hallmark of Japanese craftsmanship—contributes to a beautiful finish.
■Featuring layered Oak Dark Tan leather and a Woodsman’s heel (with a curved, indented shape on the inside), these boots have an elegant finish.
■The soles are made by the world-renowned manufacturer VIBRAM, ensuring exceptional durability.
■A removable toe cap (which protects the boot and distributes pressure from the laces) is included.
■Crafted using the Goodyear welt construction—one of the traditional methods for making leather shoes—these boots boast exceptional durability thanks to their intricate stitching.
This construction method, commonly found in vintage boots and high-end footwear, is characterized by a level of sturdiness that far surpasses other methods.
The complex stitching and structure give the boots just the right weight, creating a pendulum-like motion that supports your stride.
A key appeal is that they can be repaired—such as by replacing the sole or heel—allowing you to wear them virtually indefinitely.
