Duke Kahanamoku is known as the man who introduced aloha shirts and surfing culture to the world. He devised the style of cutting the shirt’s hem straight and wearing it with the hem hanging out, creating the prototype for what would later become the Hawaiian sports shirt.
Furthermore, Hawaiian fashion gained nationwide attention in the United States when actors wore his aloha shirts in the movie *From Here to Eternity*.
In addition, Duke worked to promote surfing as a global sport by conducting outreach activities throughout Australia and the United States, sharing its appeal with many people.
During the war, he also devoted himself to promoting aloha shirts, helping to expand their popularity on the U.S. mainland.In addition, he served the community for many years as Honolulu’s sheriff and, until his later years, hosted many prominent figures as the “Aloha Goodwill Ambassador.”
This product was worn in the 1953 film *From Here to Eternity*, and the most famous pineapple pattern in the history of the aloha shirt is this “Duke’s Pineapple.” It was a long-time bestseller at the time, and many color variations exist.
