What is OX’ED SILVER? It is a label that has researched and analyzed suits—originally worn as workwear by specific laborers, artisans, and artists—as well as the shirts, T-shirts, and other garments worn with them, and brought them back to life for the modern era.
This season’s collection focuses on four professions—ranch workers, coal miners, firefighters, and master masons—and incorporates their influences into the designs.
As the name suggests, this cap was designed with inspiration drawn from firefighters.
■The material is the brand’s original sashiko fabric, woven from hemp and cotton and inspired by rare vintage fabrics that existed from the late 1800s to the early 1930s.
Sashiko is a traditional Japanese craft technique in which thick threads are stitched one by one across the entire surface of a single piece of fabric to create a pattern, giving the fabric thickness and durability. Sashiko weaving is the process of recreating this extremely primitive technique on a loom.
The fabric’s unparalleled sturdiness and natural thickness are achieved through a triple weave using a blend of hemp and cotton yarns.
The weave of sashiko fabric is extremely sturdy, and once it absorbs water, it functions as fire-resistant clothing. For this reason, this fabric is known in Japan as a specialized material worn by firefighters.
