This model is based on the "monkey pants" that the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) used for a brief period in the 1940s. Made from highly durable herringbone fabric, it combines the ruggedness and practicality characteristic of military apparel.
■The main body is made from SZ herringbone fabric, woven exclusively for the brand.
This fabric was created based on an irregular piece of fabric that Nigel Cabourn discovered among numerous vintage samples.
Herringbone fabric is a popular choice for military wear, but most of it is woven using a technique called single herringbone. In this weave, one direction of the twill stands out while the other appears recessed; however, the SZ herringbone used in this product is different.
SZ herringbone fabric features a unique construction in which the twill pattern is clearly visible across the entire fabric.The key to achieving this weave was the use of two types of yarn with different twist directions—S-twist (clockwise) and Z-twist (counterclockwise)—which are alternately arranged as warp threads according to the direction of the twill. This approach succeeded in creating a structure that is even more robust than single herringbone, which is known for its excellent tear resistance.
This product has also undergone a bio-wash treatment to give it a worn, vintage-inspired texture.
■ The pocket fabric is made from yarn-dyed single herringbone fabric.
This is a standard herringbone fabric, different from the SZ herringbone fabric, and the contrast in texture serves as a design accent.
■ The front features a button fly.
■ A jacket from the same series is also available, so we recommend coordinating them as a suit set.
■This item has a washed finish.
