Free Wheelers has released a simple, low-gauge sweater from its “GREAT LAKES GMT. MFG. CO.” label.
While sweaters are often knitted fully automatically these days, this sweater is made entirely in Japan, carefully hand-knitted one by one on traditional hand-operated flat knitting machines.
While most sweaters are produced overseas for efficiency, this one is finished by a small number of skilled artisans who knit the body and sleeves on hand-operated knitting machines and then join them using the “linking” technique.
“Linking” is a sewing method unique to knitwear—a masterful craftsmanship where the artisan connects the stitches one by one with a needle. Since this linking is completed on a hand-operated knitting machine, there’s no doubt this is a truly special piece.

■The fabric is made from low-gauge British wool.
It uses traditional, unmodified wool to recreate a yarn that resembles hand-spun yarn from days gone by. The knit is slightly thick, tightly woven, and moderately firm, characterized by a rustic texture.
Please enjoy the comfortable “feel against the skin” and “warmth” that won’t irritate your skin.
■True to the “Trailblazer” name, this piece is recommended for all outdoor activities—such as hunting and hiking—and also pairs perfectly with simple items like jeans.

I usually wear size L/40 in Free Wheelers tops. As usual, size L/42 fits perfectly for this product as well.
I also wear size L in tops from other brands.For Free Wheelers shirts, I wear size 16/M. For pants, I wear a 32-inch waist. Please feel free to use this as a reference.

Care Instructions
For home care, please hand-wash using a neutral detergent suitable for knits.
We recommend using a general-purpose “delicate wash” detergent. Alternatively, we recommend having the item dry-cleaned at a specialty shop. This will help prevent shrinkage and loss of shape.
